KIRA INDEPTH-ANAYLSIS ○
Kira Yamato first graces us with his presence on scream from the very beginning in "PHASE 01 - False Peace". When first meeting him we are naturally to assume he is an everyday boy. He goes to the Heliopolis technical college, has many friends such as Sai Argyle, Miriallia Haw, Tolle Koenig, and Kuzzey Buskirk, and is shown to have a crush on Fllay Allster. Helipolis though gets attacked due to Zaft making an attempt to aquire [and succeeds in grabbing 4 out of the 5] the Earth Alliance's secret militar weapons, the Gundams. When the attack occurs Kira comes face to face with his childhood friend, Athrun Zala who is making an attempt to grab the GAT-X105 Strike.
Kira jumps into the cockpit with Lieutenant [at the time] Murrue Ramius and takes control of the strike fending off a GINN. After the battle Kira and friends are taken into military custidy for being in contact with military secrets. In the end he pilots the Strike for the sake of his friends, and later joins the Earth Alliance after recieving his release forms.
At heart, Kira is a pacifist, and only breaks his pacifism when faced with the reality that he does have to fight in order to protect the things he holds precious, such has friends, and loved ones. This reality keeps him from running away and causes him to grow up quicker then one would normally have to at the age of 16. Kira frequently seeks comfort from the series female cast. The pressures of war tend to weight on Kira sometimes making him depressed. Fllay Allster, Lacus Clyne, and Cagalli Athha all take turns in comforting Kira during the war, and pulling him out of these depressive moods.
In "PHASE 30 - Flashing Blades" Kira has a supposed, Missing in Action moment, or death. After a brutal battle with Athrun he realizes to little to late as Athrun escapes from his moblie suit, the Aegis, as it selfdestructs. This though isn't the end to him he awakes in the care of Lacus. As he spends time there it all crashes down on him again that he can't just turn away and ignore the war even though he may want to. He has extremely high morals that keep him from just sitting back and falling pray to the "I'm just one person, what can I do?" theory. Kira after his momentary time away from the war makes a new resolve that shows how his character has grown through the series regardless of the pacifism he wants.
Kira: If you just did nothing, cause you thought it wouldn't help, then you'd do less then nothing. For nothing would change, and nothing would end. I now believe that I have a much better understanding of what we should be fighting against.
Overall Kira's character is one of strength and turmoil but with a gentle heart, and love of pacifism even when he's never allowed to use it. Kira tries to make the world a better place in hope that even though many have fallen at his hand, and or died because he wasn't able to keep them from death, that he infact can make a difference even if it takes many long years ahead of him.
